Sunflower heads are for the birds!

The sunflowers at the Arboretum have blossomed, delighted, matured, and dried into black oil sunflower “bird feeders.”

The public is invited to cut stalks from the Arboretum grounds and hang the heads in their own backyards to support the avian community over a broader area.

The harvested dried heads may also be purchased at SeedsNBeans, 1813 Washington St, Two Rivers, with the proceeds being generously given to VDBA by store owner Lee Hansen.

Friend and nature blogger Kimberly Mackowski, visited the Arboretum in October and shared some great photos of our “free bird feeders.”

You can see more of Kimberly’s extensive collection of Wisconsin nature photography on her instagram page and if you are looking for more photos of VDBA, as well as some terrific articles, check out her website The Park Next Door.
